Love it! Robert, you have just caught me breaking one of my own rules,
which is to not make statments like I made. ("Because playing
metronomically is not playing musically." ) Something went off in the back
of my head, actually thinking that some smart ass might be out there
composing such a thing. <G> That's modern composition, and that's art -
always somebody out there ready to contradict and challenge assertions made
by the likes of people like me.
I started working on an etude which requires one to play with extremely bad
form and technique for a few measures at a time. My idea was that the
player switches between "good" and "bad," so he can truly hear the contrast
and recognize the difference. I thought it might be useful to be able to
"snap out" of bad form if one catches oneself wandering. Of course like
with everything else, I'm writing this for myself. I have some real form
problems, mostly because of years of non-classical playing. A Pepe Romero
album I bought recently made me insanely envious and obsessed with tone...
