Certainly, if he's only *just* gotten back into the fellowship of Christians, he should be given more time to sort out his knowledge of the Word, to build up relationships and trust, set up some system of accountability, make sure he's spiritually on-track with everything else before being given a leadership role. However, if he was simply away for 25yrs but been back for enough time to get his doctrine and walk sorted, along with having built up relationships with the people, etc., I think there's nothing wrong with giving him the responsibility, as long as he stays accountable. Everyone's gotta start somewhere. :o) I certainly think that being a WL is a position of heavy responsibility, and not a role to be taken lightly. -joy
