Sitting around during Thanksgiving dinner the
discussion got to how things would have been different if my family had moved
out of state as we very nearly did, rather than stay in the town I grew up in.
Mom noted how that one decision had such tremendous effect because our spouses
and kids would all be different.
I said that because Paul McCartney had gone to
the Woolton Fete as a teenager and met up with John Lennon, the world as we now
know it is vastly different than if those two had never met. That got some scorn
from some of the older relatives.
So the question is - In the grand scheme of things,
did the Beatles really change the world drastically, or is that a hopeful myth
of devoted Beatle fans?
