My God, eight years! Prior to that it was a community of pretty laid back people, many of whom (including me at the time) posted with the .edu suffix. Not that flaming didn't erupt, but it was typically quelled by someone in the group squeezing your shoulder rather than slapping you in the face. The group was rather intimate as well, with some of us actually meeting others face to face.
