Is this a serious question?  Because it's nothing to joke about if it
isn't...

the answer would be...because of his nearly fatal car crash that left him
brain-damaged and physically-impaired since 1966 (is that the correct year?)
Frankly, I was very surprised to find out several years ago that he was even
able to make the festival circuit.
