I'm the sound engineer for a semi pro group where the percussionist
currently uses a throat mic. it's actually a pickup designed for
guitars taped to his neck. he uses it primarilly for the bass kick.
due to the nature of percussion noises (put your hand to your throat
and try it), thats pretty much all you're going to get from a throat
mic. throat mics (at least if i'm understanding your question
correctly) pick up vibrations on the surface of your throat. he uses
a separate handheld mic for the high stuff.

if you ask me, its not worth it. the signal you get from it is
inconsistant, because a neck is a hard thing to mic. it likes to
shift all over the place. if you're wearing clothing (i assume yes),
there will be clothing noise. and a slew of other problems. IMHO,
you're better off just using a handheld.
