Agreed. Refunds for lower fares could be restricted to a voucher for
100% of the amount rather than cash...

Maybe by SMS/email/ for passengers entered on a waiting list...

More and more TGV services now have pre-boarding ticket checks.

Something I omitted to say previously is that members of SNCF Frequent
Traveller Program ("Grand Voyageur") may use TGVs that are adjacent to
that where they have reserved (and also those that run +/- 1hr)
without having to change their reservation beforehand. They also
benefit from a priority placing, before other overbooked passengers.
