This references the unquestioning faith of many theists.  It also
refers to the practice, in certain religions, to worship facing a
given object (Moslem-Qa'abba), or a given compass direction
(Christian - East).  It further references Hofstadter's seminal work
on self-referencing systems entitled 'Gödel, Escher and Bach'.
Finally, it marries these by referencing the image in that book of a
three-dimensional solid so shaped as to project the letters 'G', 'E',
and 'B' in three orthogonal planes.

This joke is not so much a joke as a crabbed observation on the
intellectual impoverishment of someone, earlier in this thread, who
considered a reference to shorts humourous.

Of course.  There is another compass direction, orthogonal to those
three is Julia (of Julia Set fame who laboriously drew dots on paper
to create the first fractal images).

As there are 26 dimensions, and thus 26 compass directions in all, we
should be able to fill the alphabet.
