I have askked this questions I and my wife had an appointment with a lawyer couple years ago, and he has advised us to record our home different way tha it is now, so that when one of us dies, another one will not have to pay extra taxes or something? I do not remember and understand exactly what he has said, but it was something like: Go to the county office and see the deed trust you have for your home. See how it is recorded. Is it recorded as a joint tenancy? Or is it recorde as Mr. George Kooperman and Mrs. Diane Kooperman as tenants in common? Or is it recorded as as Mr. George Kooperman and Mrs. Diane Kooperman as husband and wife? Then he has said something like Fill up a quit claim deed form and notarize the signatures and record the quitclaim form in the county. This way the surviving spouse will avoid a lot of problems related to taxes at the time his/her spouse dies. My question is-----How should it be recorded. What did he mean. Thanks a lot.
