=====================================================================================

Position: Database Administrator
Reference: SMC01334
Location: Austin TX
Duration:

Scope: The Database Administration team works with various database
management systems to organize, store and manage client-specific
data as well as information for internal company use. These
systems currently include Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase. They
set up databases and users, ensure optimum engine performance and
design/implement system security. In addition, the team
provides 24 x 7 emergency response coverage of production
database servers in the event of service interruption. With
the volume of data increasing daily, another important part
of a Database Administrators role is maintaining data
integrity and ensuring databases are backed up and are
              recoverable.

              System Administration tasks include:
Monitoring and maintaining security of databases and database
software. Granting highest-level access rights and revoking these
rights, monitoring use of these rights. Maintaining database
software and administration tool licenses. Maintaining
              development, test and production database environments;
refreshing development and test from production as required.
Monitoring the databases and optimizing database performance
and use of resources, including selecting optimal physical
implementations and indexing strategies of databases. Maintaining
availability and integrity of databases, including referential
integrity checking and multiple access schemes (locking).
Installing database software. Monitoring and managing database
backups and, when needed, restorations and imports to databases.
Database capacity planning: processing capacity, storage
              capacity and back-up capacity.

              Database Administration tasks include:
Helping application programmers install and tune their database
related programs, when possible, also giving guidance in
effective use of database features. Overseeing the maintenance of
the database content. Creating and deleting databases and
database objects. Creating stored procedures in all environments
and promoting those to test and production once testing is
complete. Perform data pulls, updates, deletes and inserts on all
database environments for application development. Provide
support for any reporting tools or third party client specific
applications. E.piphany or equivalent experience preferred.

              Database Design tasks include:
Reviewing and developing data models and database designs
with development teams; entity-relationship models are used
              with relational databases, normalizing, denormalizing,
indexing, and defining views. On the development side, the DBAs
partner with software developers to implement tandard policies
and procedures. During the software design phase, members of the
database team help the development team properly model the
information that is to be stored and write stored procedures
              that efficiently retrieve data.
