Lifeline Plans Market Introduction as We Enter National Breast Cancer Month Wednesday October 1, 11:15 am ET RENO, Nev.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 2003--Jim Holmes, CEO, Lifeline Biotechnologies Inc. (OTC: LBTT - News), today announced that the company's NippleScope(TM) has been under investigation in England for several months by Dr. Kefah Mokbel, a prominent English surgical oncologist and breast specialist. Based on his results, the company is in the process of preparing an application for a CE mark, which will position Lifeline to commence marketing in Europe later this year or early next year. According to Dr. William Reeves, the company's president and founder, Intraoperative Ductal Endoscopy (IDE) with the NippleScope(TM) is a merging technique that allows direct visualization of the breast's internal ductal system. This new technology produces a sharp, clear video image of the ducts, where it is believed that up to 95% of all breast cancers form. The initial application will be in patients who present with a nipple discharge. This new microendoscope will eliminate the need for a "blind" surgical resection to determine the cause of the discharge. There is a growing body of evidence and belief that Intraoperative Ductal Endoscopy has an important role in guiding conserving surgery for breast cancer as well as screening of high-risk women. Potential applications and feasibility of its use in the rapid intervention and outpatient setting under local anesthesia are being studied. According to Jonathan Reeves, vice president of operations, every effort is being made to meet a "mid-fall" deadline for obtaining a CE mark for the NippleScope(TM) and begin introduction of the NippleScope(TM) at several important medical meetings in Europe and the United States. Reeves added, "I think the major introduction of this exciting new product will take place at Europe's major medical meeting in Hamburg, Germany, were Dr. Mokbel will be presenting a clinical paper concerning his experience in using the scope." Holmes noted this is encouraging news as we enter National Breast Cancer Month, for women with nipple discharge as Mokbel has indications that without this important procedure a vast majority of these surgeries are determined to be needless. He went on to say that following the NippleScope(TM) introduction in Europe, it is expected that the product will be, after FDA clearance, introduced in the United States.
