Re: Change in Meters - what's that about?

About twenty years ago when windmills first came out we offered to buy
all net output at over 5 cents per kwhr. We also required two meters
one to read home usage, one to read output. We even offered a grantto
add the second meter socket if we could add a load recorder to get a
profile.

A lawyer installs a windmill at his vacation home without notifying
us. I go out (I was the @#$%^& that raised rates in those days) and
meet with the lawyer to tell him he needs two meters. He tells me he
is going to have only one meter and run his meter backwards and get
credited retail price for the energy. We discuss the rights he might
have at the PUC.

I ask him to shut off everything but the windmill. Then I take him
out and show him that even though he is exporting energy his
tamperproof meter was running forwards. He made a dash for the
breaker panel.

What he didn't know was that I had checked for a tamperproof meter
before I went to his vacation home. He had one as his vacation home
was only two years old. If he had had an old style meter that could
run backwards it would have been changed out the day before I arrived
to meet him.

It was sweeter because it was a lawyer.
