Minitel apparently started around 1982. APRANET started September of 1969. ARPANET switched over to TCP/IP starting in 1981.

Don't feel that bad - you were only off in the wrong direction by 13 years! :-D


However, MiniTel was immediately deployed to the French public, IIRC the InterNet wasn't publicly accessible in the States until maybe 1994 or so.
