Temporary Residence Questions

Hi,

Can anyone help me. I came to the US in May. I flew in on the visa
waiver scheme. I got married to a girl from the US in August before my
90days was up. We have waited to sort anything out until we had enough
money. Can we go to the INS and get temporary residence? I know this was
not the correct way to go about it, but what is the best course of
action for me a UK citizen,so I can get a job etc and not mooch of my
wife anymore. Any suggestions?I have no plans to claim anything of the
state and her parents would sponsor us.
