Might be a good idea if you do a bit more research before talking about supposed anti-English laws. There are no anti-English laws on the Quebec statute. There is of course the famous or depending on your point of view notorious Law 101, but it is not anti-English or anti any language for that matter. It is there to promote and protect the French language, and bloody right too. Just because a bunch of uptight anglos in the West Island with sticks stuck up their backsides moan about their lack of rights. In fact as I have stated before anglophones have far more rights than they should compared to any other minority group in Quebec. If you want to live in the rest of Canada and interact with the community at large you need to have basic English skills, I don't see anyone moaning about that you have to learn English to live in Ontario or BC in any of the newsgroups. If you want to live any sense of a normal life in any foreign country an understanding of the language of that country is a must. English dominates North America and therefore Quebec needs to have some means to promote and protect the French language. Laws aren't the best way, but if there was no Law 101 French in Quebec would be under even more serious threat than it is now. The only way for people to really understand this is to try and imagine if it were the other way arround, ie. if French dominated North America and English was the minority. How would you feel then? Unfortunatally most anglophones are either incapable or are too closed minded and arrogant to understand the situation. Ashley Watson
