My ob/gyn put me on cefalexinum during the pregnancy several times in order to get rid of the bacteria. Drinking a lot of water, orange juice, so called "urology tea", taking dried cranberries, etc. helped - eventually the urine was sterile. But, now Erin (my daughter, 5 weeks old) has the same bacteria I had during pregnancy (Proteus mirabilis, quantity 10/4) and her paediatrician put her on the same antibiotic I was taking during pregnancy - apparently she got th e bacteria while passing through the birth canal. The good news is that otherwise she is a healthy and happy child - so the antibiotic I had to take during pregnancy did not affect her in any way. Personally, if I knew I had UTI when I did, I'd sit out for the period until I get the results of sterile urine culture (I felt so guilty when I found out she has the asymptomatic bacteriuria, even though I did all I could to get rid of the bacteria!). But that's just me. Best wishes, Elly Mom to Erin - 5w1d old today!
