Re: New monitor - Therasense Freestyle Tracker - Anyone use it?

Sorry I"m late answering, been away for a bit.

The Freestyle "Tracker", as opposed to just Freestyle, is a plug-in module for the Handspring Visor PDA. I have both this (had a relative get it for me in the US, as it's not in Canada) AND the regular Freestyle stand-alone (which is on the market here).

Love them both. Very, very disappointed in Handspring's decision to discontinue the Visor technology, as they did so practically before this module hit the market, however, Therasense was very smart and grabbed up as much stock as they could to re-sell with the module. Other Handsprings are available reconditioned from Handspring (now PalmOne) and probably on E-Bay. I actually bought a second visor end-of-line in case mine ever poops right out or breaks, I love them.

I highly recommend it, as the better you can track and understand your glucose, the better off you are, and I have been dependent on a PDA to organize my life for about 5 years now and love it.

I DO recommend having a back-up meter, and of course the regular Freestyle makes the most sense as the test strips are the same. I recommend a back-up regardless of what meter you use, but realize with the Tracker, that a PDA malfunction means you can't use your meter even if the meter is fine. Not a huge concern, as these are reliable and recoverable little powerhouses (always sync and back up!), and are about as likely to break as any other stand-alone meter is or isn't.

Hope that's worth your $0.25. Cheers,

Johanna

I was checking out the new meters on the Therasense website, the ones who
make Freestyle and noticed this new machine, does anyone have any experience
with it and is it a good machine overall? My hubby currently uses the
Accu-Chek Active and we find that pretty good, but looking for something
that has the tracking capabilities. Any comments are welcome!

Thanks for all your help.
