California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has proposed an AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) enrollment cap to January 2004 levels as part of his budget-cutting program. This will result in persons newly diagnosed with HIV/AIDS who have inadequate or no health insurance coverage to be placed on a waiting list until a current enrollee dies or otherwise drops out of the program. Current estimates are that this cap will result in an ADAP waiting list of as many as 700 people within six months, which will expand exponentially thereafter. To voice your disgust with Gov. Schwarzenegger's proposal to impose a death sentence on those who can least afford HIV medications, pay a visit to The Desert AIDS Project's (Palm Springs) Action Alert page: http://capwiz.com/desertaids/mail/oneclick_compose/?alertid=4334186 You will be provided with a sample e-mail which you may edit or replace as you see fit. It will be necessary for you to provide your e-mail address, name, mailing address and telephone number in order to complete the form. Residents of California will also have copies of their e-mail submitted to their local Assemblyperson and Senator in the state legislature. Please take a moment to voice your concern over this ill-conceived budget cut proposal. Jef
