If the above numbers are true then the UK is foolish to allow immigrants in without testing them for HIV (and other diseases). I am anticipating the development of an instant saliva dip stick test so that Western nations can test all foreigners entering their countries. Furthermore, how many of the 1,850 cases "likely acquired in the UK" were contracted from HIV+ immigrants? During the recent SARS outbreak, nations around the world set up screening systems to detect possible carriers attempting to enter their countries; why shouldn't people be screened for HIV too?
