http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/3233018.stm What I find interesting here is that in the year 2002 up to the month of september there were 5711 new cases of HIV. Then the figures are broken down 3,500 acquired heterosexually 1,691 among gays and bisexuals So I start to think. Finally the dreaded heterosexual explosion in HIV cases we have been threatened with 20 years is finally among us poor unfortunates. Or is it... I quote from the same article "There were 1,850 cases of HIV diagnosed during 2002 that were likely to have been acquired in the UK. " So, as I understand it, out of the 5711 HIV cases announced around 4000 were from immigrants. I have reread this article to see if I'm not following something but no, I cannot see that to say anything other than there were 1850 new HIV diagnoses amongst UK citizens. >From these 1850 it states there are 275 diagnoses that come from heterosexuals. It doesn't say how many of them share needles but if they mentioned that, they might be forced to admit that a british heterosexual has more chance of being struck by lightning than becoming HIV positive through heterosexual sex. One more quote. "Heterosexual transmission of HIV is more likely to occur outside the UK." Thats it. Just a little paragraph saying that foreigners have more chance of getting HIV from heterosexual sex than the british. Why is that? Do we have some sort of super gene that could be used to develop a vaccine to help the "others" unfortunate enough not to have been born on this sacred isle. Why is it, with all our teenage pregnancies and STDs (which clearly demonstrate that we aren't practising safe sex), do the British stand practically no chance of catching HIV from heterosexual sex?
