PROTESTS AGAINST THE DISASTERS OF PRIVATIZED UTILITIES (MANILLA)

Hundreds of protestors from urban poor communities in Metro Manila
together with progressive groups like Freedom from Debt Coalition
(FDC), BISIG, Padayon, KPML and the guerilla vendors from the Metro
Manila Vendors Alliance (MMVA) sieged the historical Mendiola bridge
to express their dissent against the horrible effect of basic public
service privatization such as Water and Electricity yesterday,
November 26, 2003. The bridge was occupied for the first time after a
long period of No Permit No Rally policy at the perimeter imposed by
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo since her regime was rocked by a
series of destabilization plots due to her incompetence in solving the
plight of the Filipino masses.

Maynilad Water services and Meralco Electric corp. owned by the Lopez
family continues to strangle the people with its unbelievable price
rates while the President keeps on ignoring such issues that badly
affects the masses. Instead, the President busy herself in preparing
for the 2004 Presidential elections by forging an alliance with Noli
De castro who is known to be an asset of the Lopezes as her running
mate.

The peaceful protestors were about to be dispersed immediately by the
police officers using the psychology of the gun. Fortunately no one
was hurt, because the protestors pulled-out right away after several
of speeches was heard from the activists.
