I do 60 minutes a day wearing my moccasin house slippers without socks. The
first couple of days, until I got used to the new machine, there was a
little minor discomfort in the ankles, but now, none. I weigh ~240 lb.
I'm surprised that you are having any trouble. Ellipticals are so
gentle/shock-less that anything you can walk in comfortably should work just
fine.
