What are his chances for a SBA loan?

This is all new to me. I'm hoping someone out there could share their
wisdom.

My son, 25, has held many automotive-relaled jobs, but none longer
than a year. He's a hard worker with a clean record but with no
assets. Currently he works for a large 24-hr service station with a
lucrative towing service and many clients including AAA. His boss told
him that he no longer wants to stay in this business because of
failing health and the difficulty in getting good help. He wants to
sell the towing business to my son and will allow the business to run
out of his station for storage, repairs, etc. The dollar cost would
basically be for buying the trucks from his boss totalling about $120K
+ insurance, employee benefits set-up etc. The boss's wife is the
current administrator and is willing to show him the ropes.

My son made a half-hearted attempt at a loan at a local bank, but was
(not surprisingly) turned down. He thinks though, that he will stand a
very good chance after he is married in a year. Why? Because his
wife-to-be is Korean American. He believes her minority status would
work in his favor.

Unfortunately, when the girl was 19 four years ago and worked for a
local bank, she got into some kind of criminal actviity and gave out
private bank info to others that netted the group about $25K. The
judge was merciful and put her on probation. She was given the chance
to repay her share back, which she did, and was told by the court that
her record is now "expunged." (What that means I have no idea)

So whadya think? Is this a lost cause right from the start? Any advice
would be deeply appreciated as a person's future can be made or broken
in this effort. Thanks.
