Joe,
At one level, I can't imagine that the future of Internet marketing
would be very much like the past of Internet marketing. So, here's
what I would foresee:
* Continued fighting over the taxable status of Internet sales. In
the US I expect the tax ban to be renewed, but the EU doesn't
seem to be following that lead.
* Battle to avoid getting lost in the clutter. There are so many
web sites and it is difficult to stand out. Internet marketing
will remain an effort to stand out.
* Related to the above, brand names will attract consumers
just like in real-life. Time-pressed consumers will opt for any-
thing that will save time, such as using brand names as a
short-cut.
* Internet marketing will increasingly be a B2B discipline.
It seems easier to establish a B2B brand than a consumer
brand, so new B2B firms will probably keep moving to
Internet marketing.
Those are my thoughts for now. More later, or when I change my mind
