Greetings! I am a student, soon to be a law school student, and always in need of extra money, as are some of my friends with whom I attend the university. This lead to an idea we had to start a small business, with only a handful of us, serving papers for law firms, practices, and individuals. Hence, this post. The idea is still in the pre-beginning stages, and we are attempting to gather as much information as possible. Any opinions, input or information you may have would be very much appreciated. Ideally, this is what we hope to develop; A non-profit organization which provides dependable, professional, and efficient service of legal papers (i.e. complaints, summons, subpoenas, etc.) for a wide range of businesses and individual. The proceeds to be deposited into an interest bearing account, wherein the student who actively provided service of the legal papers is written a check, after the companies all pay their bills, to go towards their school bills. Some questions we have are: 1. Is it feasible that this would be a non-profit venture? Are there resources for which we may look into that? 2. If you are an attorney, is it feasible to market this service to attorneys and firms? If so, Do you have any ideas on the best way to do so on a $00 budget? What are the main things which you look for in a company? 3.We chose this service, because it suited the few resources we currently have available to us (arms, cars, mapquest, a notary and computers.) As to other things we will need, we have so far thought of these; cards and flyers, a database to track serves, who did the serve, billing etc., paper, some sort of account, some sort of license or permit allowing us to do this. If you have started your own small business, do you see something we ave just blatantly overlooked? 4. Above you will note that we have no idea as to how to obtain a permit/ license and account for which to start this up. How necessary is this step? Can anybody point me to any resources or information about this? I have cross posted this to usenet groups I thought may have some insightful information. I would appreciate any feedback you may have. Thank you! Very truly yours, YoungVegas
