I believe you need to address your problem from four perspectives:

1. tax law in California
2. tax law in New Mexico
3. accepted practices across State line
4. what form of doing business minimizes your tax burden and maximizes your
write-offs

You might want to do a little research using the Google engine (newsgroups)
and visit the Nolo web site (www.nolo.com).

Maybe one or more visitors to this list can provide you with anecdotal
information.

You may also want to talk to certified accountants in both States and ask
them what they recommend (with the focus of minimizing your tax burden and
maximizing your net revenue).
