HIPAA reminds me of the HIV/bloodborne pathogens thing of the late 1980s.
All of a sudden everyone was rushing around saying they had to mask and gown
for every patient.  Departments started buying biohazard-proof uniforms
(whatever the hell those are).  EMT students dropped out when they were told
the would have to provide care for HIV patients.  Firefighters refused to
provide EMS for the same reason.

Eventually everyone calmed down and reason prevailed.  I think the same
thing will happen with HIPAA.  Give it a year or so and sanity will return.
