Hey Bob, Yeah, I'm a parasaurus too.... I still have to think before grabbing the tube and blowing in it (with my mouth) I rarely wear gloves, and wander around auto accidents checking multiple patients without all the handwashing the Infection Control Specialist RN, BSN, MSN swears we always use per policy. I agree with everypoint you made, and I specifically didn't offer an opinion, to elicit responses like yours. I honestly think I'd have been on the same thought track as the medics with substance abuse no doubt in my mind. But if I was suspecting drugs on board, and a likelyhood of illicit drugs by questionable routes > GLOVES ...right? I guess that the tubing is realistically clean (not sterile) and even if I managed to stick myself while adminstering the D-50, is a little farther up the line anyway. It's not like my last needle stick where the dumpster divin' urban outdoorsman woke up and stuffed the angio into my thigh when I reached for the line hanging from the ceiling DOH! With that said..... I watched as the Medic held the IV line in place, and stuffed a needle in the arm, blood flowing and not a sign of gloves. It wasn't a case of footage loops, and mixed scenes. I thought to myself, what criteria woudl I be using to wear gloves, and what's the impression we give those watching and learning. I guess I think I'd be on my best behavior if I knew the world is watching. You're right, no big issue here. It's just an editorial, the product of surfing while watching TV.
