My primary concern is for the general public, rather than the scientific and technical communities. It personally doesn't bother me if the SI unit of thermodynamic temperature is equal to 2.345 671E-09 K or 1.000 405E+09 K. I do have a problem with an SI unit that the general public can't comprehend and easily use. The meter and kilogram make sense to most people. Most people can estimate distances and weight fairly easily. Very few non-technical people use the kelvin. Few people can estimate temperatures in kelvin. Most people use the goofy Celsius or Fahrenheit temperature scales. I don't think it makes much sense to use one temperature scale for scientific work and another temperature scale for everyday use.
