Bill, I've reflected quite often on precisely the point you make
here, which is to say the utter pointlessness, the rather sad waste of
time exhibited by so many who post unnoted links all over Usenet
posting groups. You really do have to scratch your head over this
quite curious phenomenon, the presumption being at the very least that
"something" had to prompt them to take the time to paste it up to
begin with, right? Well, then out with it. Tell the rest of us what it
was which made you go to all this trouble putting that link up there,
and what we can expect to find once we get there of relevance to the
thread.
For my part, I'm at a complete loss as to how to explain this
bizarre behavior, save that of offering the uncharitable observation
that most of them simply cannot string together more than six words
without fainting dead away. I'm thoroughly convinced that this cannot
be explained away on the basis of sheer laziness, for the act itself,
the link they even bothered to search out and offer, presumes a
certain level of interest that would seem to preclude that. No, the
adamant refusal on the part of so many of them to append so much as
two sentences has solely to do with their abject fear of ever writing
ANYTHING down for others to judge.
Yes, you're right on target here, my good man. It's much easier to
remain relatively anonymous in these groups than to put anything on
the line beyond an occasional two sentence inanity, preferably laced
with an expletive or two. And as you touch upon in other of your
posts, what in the hell is the point of even participating in these
groups if one isn't prepared to jump in with both feet and tell the
rest of the world, "OK, here I am and this is what I got!" I mean,
what is anyone even doing here if all they're prepared to do is paste
up a crude, one line insult from time to time directed at someone who
at least had the heuvos to stick his/her chin out and let you take
your best shot?
Well, Bill, I think we both know the answer to that, don't we?
Might it be they're deathly afraid of exposing their own glass chins?
Ursula
