Like someone buying a basket case classic restoration for their first
car, having never worked on a car before.

You will either learn fast or be screwed!  (Or perhaps both.)

BTW, the MISTAKE you made was to go by the assessed value in deciding
it was a bargain.  Maybe the assessment was way, way off.  So why
didn't the owner protest the assessment?  Well, why did the owner let
it go for taxes.  Could be a myriad of things, but one reason could
be, it aint worth squat!!!!

BTW, being a dirtbiker, I'd love to have some high desert with paper
"road allowances" that it was legal to travel on as long as one could
get through it!  (NO, I'm not buying yours!)
