When I bought my first house with septic, I had the septic checked by a testing firm (they also did radon, etc.). They put dye in the toilets, flushed and then ran the water forever. They then check outside for the appearance of dye (which would show if the leach fields weren't draining properly. In my case, it was obvious the owner had just redone the leach fields. Make sure you know the size of tank and location for future pumping. We are inspecting a property we made an offer on. What should we look for when checking out the septic ? I don't think we need a pro. NO? "If I can not dance, I want no part in your revolution." Emma Goldman
