You might not know that Kraftmaid, like other large manufacturers, has several lines of cabinets. Their best line has solid plywood construction, dove-tailed drawers, and other more "premium" features. It's still not as well-made as some, but your cheap cabinets are not necessarily representative of all of the company's products. I'd go back to your buddy and ask him why he couldn't get you a deal on Kraftmaid's better cabinets. Dimitri
