In today's "Meter on side of house" thread, Robert posted some info from
the local power company:
>> Grounding should be at the service entrance, meter location. Reason
for this is other utilities, phone and catv will attach to that
ground. If grounding is done at the main panel then Catv and phone
will install their own ground this will create major issues with
lightning and interference, because of the potential difference
between grounds. <<
As part of a renovation I'm having my existing but very outdated 200-amp
panel replaced. The house currently does not have any ground rods, so
the electrician said he needed to install two to bring it up to code.
After that is done, will I need to contact the telephone/cable companies
to have them check/change/remove their existing hookups? If so, what do
I ask to have checked/done?
