I live in a smallish complex with no amenities (no pool, tennis courts, playgrounds, nothing). There are about 125 units, and the fee is 159.14 per month. I have lived here just over three years, and in that time I have never received an accounting of where the fees are going. Prior to purchasing this unit, I know that they raised the fees to put new roofs on all the condos, but that project is long since finished, and other than some landscaping (which I received an assessment for), there haven't been any improvements to the complex. The manager only takes care of problems if you call him repeatedly, I noticed he is advertising his own personal business in the stationary used for our association mailings, he has made himself a sub contractor to take junk off the premisis (which I think is a conflict of interest, no checks and balances there). Overall, I just think this guy is lazy. I am thinking of running for the board for this upcoming year, the only problem is that I will most likely have to challenge someone on the board, and there are a lot of people who own these condo's and rent them out, it is about 60% renters in residence. So basically a lot of the owners are apathetic to the issues around here because they don't live with them day to day, and they don't show up to vote. I was thinking I could probably get the owners in residence to vote for me, I would knock on their doors myself, but do I have a right to know where they live and who they are? So any advice at this time would be appreciated. I know a lot of people around here are unhappy, but no one seems to want to take the time to do anything about it.
