Re: "Want to be middle-class? Don't have kids."

Mr Negativity here.... The real risk taker in getting married and having
kids is the working male, ESPECIALLY if he allows the wife to stay home (which
I think is the right way to raise kids).

He is taking a huge risk, because if and when the wife is unhappy
with Mr Breadwinner, she can divorce him , get the kids, and get half of his
assets, and huge child support payments. And she will get this for ANY reason.
Boredom, needing to "find herself", etc. And Mr . Breadwinner, who never
cheated on her, is now alone, minus half ( or more) of his assets, possibly
living at the YMCA, and paying anywhere from $400 to $2000 per month in "child
support" to the thankless ex-wife.

Before the wife got bored and left, they perhaps were spending $200 per month
on the kid(s). Now that she is getting "child support", she is getting perhaps
$2000 per month "for the kids".... Yeah, right...

Mr. Breadwinner is thinking "Hey, man, this just ain't right." But people
call him a "deadbeat dad" if he doesn't shell out the $2000 per month to the
ex-wife "for the children"....

Prenuptial agreements may or may not protect the working man from such a
fate. I've heard of prenups being ignored by judges who think state law
overrides them.

Just something to think about. And yes, it happenned to me, I am bitter, yes,
and you don' t have to point it out.

My point is : Being married and having kids is expensive enough, but being a
divorced dad is way more expensive.

Negativity light off.
