The guy who built my house (and his own) put a pellet stove into his
fireplace. He rarely ever used the gas heat. His house hadn't been
designed for a full open flow of warm air from that source, so he did
need to use the gas sometimes when it was really cold, but if the house
didn't have a lot of blocking walls or horizontal spaces, I think it
could go pretty well.
