Following up my own post:

A 100-pack of Kodak 4x6 photo paper runs around $20 at Sams, IIRC.

A 3-color pack of ink cartridges for my printer runs around $35,
assume you could print 100 pictures on 1 set of cartridges, I think
the number might be much lower than that, like I said, I have never kept 
track.

Anyway, with those costs for supplies, you're talking about $0.55 per 4x6 
print, doesn't compare very well with Sam's cost of $0.19 per print, using 
the chemical process on their Fuji Frontier machines, which should have 
much better longevity than inkjet inks.

With those numbers, it's pretty much a no-brainer - use a home photo 
printer when you want instant gratification, take them to Sams et. al. when 
you don't want to pay that much.
