My wife actually had to buy a dozen eggs from the store last week, with all the cooking for TG. Our hens have slacked off considerably with the shorter winter days -- we are only getting 1-3 eggs a day lately. My wife has set up a light on a timer in the chicken palace to see if that will spur production. In the summer, we were getting 4-5 dozen eggs a week. We gave them to MIL and others, sold a few and gave the excess to the local food bank. Previously, I didn't eat many eggs, so didn't pay much attention. Now that I am following a more balanced protein/carb diet, I eat 4-6 eggs at a sitting (whites only), several times a week. The fresh brown ones are definitely the best, so I am now taking more interest in our flock.
