Just go to a good electronics store such as Staples, CompUSA and look at the printers. Most stores have their printers on display and you can see how good the output looks. Depending on your needs, you may also need to be aware of printer ink replacement cost. If you don't print frequently, ink replacement cost isn't going to be a big factor though. All the major name brands of printers are fine for the typical person. Where differences is when you get into more advanced printing, such as for a newsletter, fine art photography, and so on. For high end digital photo printing, its hard to go wrong with Epson.
