DD has been using one for about 4 or 5 years for shaving her legs. She uses shower gel. The directions state to add about an inch (bottle is marked) of "liquid soap" and then fill with water. Bath and Body Works now sells a kitchen hand soap in a sudsing bottle. I have refilled that with antibacterial Dawn and water for at the kitchen sink, but it was drying my hands out really bad. The secret is to dilute the soap so it is very watery. Also, if you use a moisturizing product, something with oil or cream in it, or too thick, it COULD clog the pump. Marianne in Scranton PA
