This may not apply to you, but it is a Panasonic phone...

I've been using the KX-TG2000B for about two years (link below)
and I've actually been very happy with it.  This is after
returning a Nortel system that sucked.  I have gotten a range
of 600 feet from an indoor base unit, and garbled conversations
or fade has never been an issue.  The interface into the menu
options seems to be considerably better designed than other
phones I've gotten.  My only complaint is the mike on the
base unit handset is so tiny that I can barely be heard
(not a problem on the cordless phones).

Of course the KX-TG2000B and KX-TG2258S could be worlds apart
(maybe from different factories or countries) so you might
have to go to eopinions.com (as someone recommended) and
get advice on that particular model.
