How to market a web site?

Does anyone know where I can find advice on marketing web sites on behalf of
a web designer? I'd like to know in which publications it would be best to
advertise sites for sale, whether daily or weekly newspapers or specialist
magazines such as for computers, and whether if, for example, you wished to
target web site sales to motels you'd be wiser to put your ads  under
"Computers", "For Sale" or "Accommodation" etc. Strangely, I can't find this
subject anywhere on the internet. There's plenty of info on selling items
from web sites but not on selling web sites themselves.
