Reminds me of the oroborous symbol - deliberately I assume? I am not sure what the designer's intent was. In previous incarnations we didn't have a globe, but a silver pearl or a golden ball. I came back one day and hey presto, it was a globe. Then the Oroborous reference seemed obvious to those of us who know about that.
