It looks like I paid US $1.95 (many years ago) for the copy of
"The Living Brain" by W. Grey Walter that I have right here.
(It has a sticker: W.W. Norton & Co. $1.95 :-)

Booksellers need to make a living, you know. They provide the
ultimate pleasures in life for thee and me, and for what?
Begrudge not booksellers the pittance they ask for paradise!

I bought it, but I don't think I ever really did read it.
My copy here looks brand new and unused -- after decades!
I got a lot more mileage (YMMV) out of "The Metaphorical Brain"
by Michael A. Arbib, which I bought on 20 October 1973 for US $14.95
and proceeded to make reference to in a Theory of Mind journal at
http://mentifex.virtualentity.com/theory1.html#1974jul23 (q.v.).

Nevertheless, my copy of "The Living Brain" permits an ISBN search via
