Here's three suggestions: 

ZoneAlarm (www.zonelabs.com) - Doesn't require much knowledge of
networking. 

Agnitum Outpost (www.agnitum.com) - Requires a little more from the
user. Also does ad-blocking. 

Kerio Personal Firewall (www.kerio.com) - Like Outpost, it does require
some understanding of networking. Still, easy to use, and very
configurable.
