I'm thinking that if a wife finds her husband out with the Earth Mother, or
even just the waitress in the local coffee shop, she is going to be pretty
angry, upset, and disgusted, and he had better be prepared to do some
explaining. I think most women in our society understand this almost
intuitively. But, come to think of it, so do many men.

On the other hand, there is no reason that either sex could not understand
Wotan's predicament sufficiently.

No,,,you're absolutely correct about the heritage. I was more or less
thinking of the relationship between Wotan's quest for knowledge vis-a-vis
the different women. The familial relation is another aspect that is also
fun to ponder. That's the great thing about the Ring. It can be
appreciated on so many levels.

He reminds Fricka just how much he gave up for her. So at that time he
certainly must have manifested something equally emotional towards her. I
think you have to be correct that it was physical passion. And maybe some
intellectual admiration, too, since she is obviously as sharp witted as he.
Just think how far she could have gone at manipulation if she'd only have
warmed up to Loge a little more!

I also agree with you about the "all" and "always". But in these matters
we're dealing with myth and icons. Stereotypes if you prefer. There is
something universal in these Ring characters, and a bit resides in each of
us. That's why it is so meaningful.
