Hi, I'm not quite 100 % sure about this story, but check it out anyway ; Beethoven was falling in love with one of his students : Thérese. He actually wrote "Für Thérese" on his manuscript (sheet music) but the person who had to publish the manuscript couldn't read the name (Beethoven's writing was not very clear). The publisher thought that Beethoven wrote Elise and so the document was published as "Für Elise". Beethoven was outraged when he saw the mistake but he did not have enough money to republish the whole thing so he had to settle for the title "Für Elise". Imagine how frustrated he must have been if he couldn't even tell his poor student that the piece was actually written for her (perhaps she wouldn't have believed him anyway). So, there's your answer, but again : I have only read this story 1 time so I can't guarantee it's true... Cheers, Belgian Beethoven "Monster Jojo" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> schreef in bericht news:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Hi, I'd like to know who was Elisa, the woman whos name Beethoven put in the > title of his artwork.
