聘請各類團體器樂導師 Recruit: Tutors of various musical instrument classes (>$250 per 1-hr lesson)

For the academic year 2003-2004, please feel free to send your application
and relevant particulars.

Recruitment (for local Hong Kong only)
===========

Tutors of western orchestral instruments in primary 小學 & secondary 中學
schools including
5. other instruments (folk guitar 民歌結他, drum set, etc. upon your
proposal)

About ABRSM grade 5 level (except percussion) is qualified to teach entry
level classes. If you possess higher technical level (ABRSM grade 7 or
above), you may be arranged to teach intermediate level classes but mostly
also entry level classes. However, some schools would prefer a tutor with
grade 8 level or above in one musical instrument, even this one is
irrelevant to teaching instrument.

Tutors of primary school student instruments including
1. Pianica 口風琴 (also known as melodian, melodion or melody horn)
2. Harmonica 口琴
3. Recorder 牧童笛 (soprano or sopranino, occasionally with treble or alto
German type)

No formal qualification is needed as long as you can play that/those musical
instrument(s) well. Pianica is a kind of handheld blowing keyboard, any
medium level piano player should able to handle it easily.

Please bear in mind that the most important thing is class management (i.e.
ability to control discipline of pupils, especially in primary school).
Both experienced and inexperienced are welcomed. However, some schools
would prefer a tutor with grade 8 level or above in one musical instrument,
even this one is irrelevant to teaching instrument.

Terms and conditions (in brief, not a formal one):
1. $250 or above per 1-hr lesson, no matter what kind of instrument and what
grade you are in or to teach. If there is 1.5-hr lesson, your will receive
more proportionally. A small range of discrepancy on hour rate may depend
on your skill, qualification and experience, on which you will know when you
are invited for an interview.
2. No basic salary nor travelling allowance.
3. You have right to accept or refuse any job offer of particular school for
any reason (e.g. time unavailable, too far away, etc.) while your reputation
won't be hurt.
4. Since all instrumental classes are kind of extra-curriculum activities,
you will need to work at the time after school in weekdays (at noon for half
day school or in evening for full day school), as well as Saturday or
Sunday. Some may be double lessons and some may be single lesson. If
possible, you may get job offer to visit 2 schools in any single day and
teach up to 3 lessons. But in average, 1 to 2 lessons during weekdays while
more may be held during weekends.
5. You may expect that about 24 to 30 lessons for each instrumental class
annually.
6. There is normally no job during school holiday as well as school
examination period.
7. Be punctual.
8. Minimize number of absent from teaching within at least one semester (3
months).
9. Schedule your own teaching scheme beforehand. You are welcomed to ask
for materials from any experienced tutor or the agency company that you are
working for.
10. You may required to lead your class for annual performance of the
school.
11. Class size will be from 8 to 16 pupils.
12. Depending on your spoken language proficiency, you may choose to teach
in English for some international schools. However, classes are mostly
taught in Cantonese.
13. Sometimes you may be asked to teach any class on which the original
tutor is absented. Hour rate payment will be same as your normal rate.
14. You will receive your salary in the first week of each month after you
serviced.

I am looking any potential tutor who is totally free of time (e.g. currently
unemployed or being housewife at home), or who has already in job market
with fixed or controllable schedule of daily life (e.g. private instrumental
tutor). Current tertiary student is welcomed but higher preference will be
given to the aforementioned one. No age limits, but you must be over 18.

Please prepare to work for at least 1 semester (3 months, about 10~12
lessons). Of course, you are welcomed to take this job as a kind of
long-term part-time job.

Please send your resume (in English or Chinese), stating your available time
and instrument(s) to be instructed, to:
