1. Target Readers

hk.rec.music.classical is a Hong Kong Based newsgroup which mainly serves Hong K
ong people, but others who would like to join are also welcome.

2. Contents

hk.rec.music.classical is a place for discussing classical music and
its related matter. Definition of "classical music and its related
matter" should be:

a. "classical music" is considered to be music composed in classical
tradition of any musical culture. It can be understood as music which
provide lasting values to the listeners despite of change in time and
place. Compared with non-classical music, a piece of classical music is
mostly identified with the composer rather than its performers and its
reproduction is tried to be more faithful to the written score.
Contemporary music which has strong historical relation with classical
tradition should be also included. To be more specific,
hk.rec.music.classical is mainly for discussion of Western and Chinese
classical music but other genre of classical music are also welcome.

b. "classical music and its related matters" include:
i. discussion of composers, works, performances and recordings of classical musi
c.
ii. education of classical music
iii. reviews of concert, cd and discography related to classical music
iv. information relevant to classical music on books, magazines and Internet etc
.
v. meaning of classical music and its relationship with other human activities.

c. the above definition is by no mean conclusive, meta-discussion is
also welcome in hk.rec.music.classical

3. Languages

As it is expected that most of the target readers are Hong Kong people
with a minority of foreigners who cannot read Chinese, the articles of
the newsgroup is expected to be in Big-5 Chinese (which can be altered
when the coding changes) and English. Using of code other than BIG-5
are not encouraged in hk.rec.music.classical.

4. Morals and Ethics

To keep a good atmosphere for the discussions in
hk.rec.music.classical, it is supposed to have the following
standpoints towards:

a. Cross-posting -- participants can cross-post any articles which is
related to the contents of hk.rec.music.classical into this newsgroups.
However, articles irrelevant to Classical Music are not welcome to be
cross-posted into hk.rec.music.classical.

b. Flame wars -- hk.rec.music.classical is only a newsgroup for the
discussion of classical Music, not for anybody to flame others. Hence,
flame wars are prohibited.

c. Foul languages -- Since hk.rec.music.classical is not a place for
the art of foul languages, foul languages should be prohibited in
hk.rec.music.classical.

d. Advertisement -- Commercial postings are not welcome on
hk.rec.music.classical. Personal list of forsale items related to
classical music should be kept as brief as possible and posted once
only.
